About Directorate of Technical Education, Assam
Technical Education in Assam started with the establishment of Prince of Wales Institute of Engineering & Technology at Jorhat before independence in 1927. Establishment of Assam Engineering Institute and later establishment of Assam Engineering College was the beginning of Technical Education in the State of Assam. It has been a long journey of the evolution of State technical Education in the State of Assam.
Directorate of Technical Education, Assam was established at 1960. Now there are four Govt. Engineering Colleges and 10 Polytechnic Institutions under this Directorate. In the Technical Education front, there has been phenomenal growth in the recent past. The first Engineering College – Assam Engineering College was established in 1956 at Guwahati and the first Diploma Institution- Assam Textile Institution was established in at Guwahati.

Assam JAT Exam Pattern 2017
- Candidates applying for MBBS /BDS/BAMS Courses must appear in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology only.
- Candidates applying for Engineering Degree Courses must appear in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics only.
- Candidates appearing in both MBBS /BDS/BAMS and Engineering Degree Courses must appear in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics
- Each paper shall be of 2(two) hours duration and shall contain 100 multiple choice questions each carrying one mark.
- Total marks for each paper shall be 100. There shall be no negative marking for wrong answers.

Qualification
- To be eligible the candidate must pass 10+2 Examination (12 years) from Assam higher secondary education council.
OR
- An equivalent examination with PCM and English securing at least 50% marks aggregate in PCM in one sitting are eligible.
