About MPSC Board:
Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) is a Constitutional Body established Under Article 315 of Constitution of India which provides a smooth and efficient functioning of the Government of Maharashtra (GoM) by providing suitable candidates for various Government posts and advises them on various service matters like formulation of Recruitment Rules (RR), advise on promotions, transfers and disciplinary actions etc. The chairman of the Board is Shri Vitthal Narayan More. As per Article 320 of the Constitution of India, MPSC has been entrusted with the following major functions:
- The commission will take decisions on the duty of Commission to conduct examinations for appointments to the services of the State.
- On all matter relating to methods of recruitment to Civil Services and for Civil posts.
- On the principles to be followed in making appointments to Civil Services and posts and in making promotions and transfers from one service to another and on the suitability of candidates for such appointments, promotions or transfers.
- On all disciplinary matters affecting a person serving under the Government including memorials or petitions relating to such matters.

The selection process of Maharashtra Public Service Commission starts as soon as the Commission issues advertisements as per requisition received from the concerned appointing authorities of the State Government. The selection process varies from service to service as per provision of concerned Service Rules. There are two types of selection procedures, namely:
- Written examination followed by the viva-voice test based on syllabus recorded in the Service Rules concerned.
- Through vice-voice test only. (if the number of candidates is very high in comparison to the number of posts, a scrutiny test is conducted to minimize the number of candidates proportionately, which, of course, depends on the discretion of the Commission).
After completion of the Above two selection procedures, the performances of the candidates are evaluated and recommendation list is prepared on the basis of merit and reservation rules in force and is sent to the appointing authority.
